Adventureland Resort in Altoona, Iowa has been entertaining guests since 1972. Now this theme park has over 100 rides, shows, and attractions. It is a great place to visit during the summer. And its location near Des Moines makes it very convenient for Iowa families.
So today I want to tell you about some of the great attractions at Adventureland. And then I’ll tell you how you can save money on your ticket!
Theme Park Attractions
Underground
This ride is really exciting to me, because it is the world’s first (and only) indoor wooden roller coaster. It is a story-driven, technologically-advanced, dark ride experience that centers around a plotline involving entering an abandoned mine in search for Sheriff Sam’s infamous lost gold.
Draken Falls
Draken Falls is a Viking ship log flume ride.
Flying Viking
Flying Viking is another Viking-theme ride. This ride is a family roller coaster.
Dragon Slayer
Dragon Slayer is Adventureland’s only spin coaster.
Giant Sky Wheel
This Ferris Wheel reaches heights of over 90 feet. It is a wonderful way to get great views of the theme park.
Monster
Monster is Adventureland’s first infinity roller coaster.
A-Train
Get a wonderful view of Adventureland while taking a tour aboard a replica of an 1863 locomotive.
Frantic Freeway
Frantic Freeway is the theme park’s bumper car attraction.
Hampton Cars
A children’s attraction where kids can ride retro vehicles like twin motorcycles and fire trucks.
Phoenix
A roller coaster where you speed along a track that is 1,400 feet long
Tornado
Adventureland’s classic wooden roller coaster is always a fan favorite.
Red Barons
Kids fly around on World War II replica planes.
Lighthouse
Try to pump your way to the top of the tower before you free fall on this interactive ride.
Scrambler
This classic amusement park ride is always a favorite.
Rockin’ Rainbow
This is a classic swing ride.
Tilt-A-Whirl
This is another classic ride that is fun for the whole family.
Carousel
Another classic ride where you spin around in a horse.
Chuck Wagon
Feel like you’ve headed west in this Ferris wheel ride where you ride along in a wagon.
Convoy
Kids get into get behind the wheel and drive around a mini highway.
Space Shot
Feel like you have been blasted off into space.
Revolution
Revolution is a colonial-themed pirate ship style ride.
Speedway Racers
A pint-size race car attraction for kids.

Adventureland also has its own waterpark within the theme park: Adventure Bay! Yes, you can visit both a theme park and a waterpark with one ticket!
