Great news Chicagoland: Light Up the Lake at Navy Pier is back this year! It started back on November 25, 2022, and will run through January 7, 2023. And not only is it back this year, but this year it’s even better than ever with brand-new activities!
We’re going to go over all the fun things you can do at Light Up The Lake. And then we’ll tell you how you can save money on a ticket here!
Light Sculptures
A highlight of Light Up The Lake are the light sculptures. After all, Light Up The Lake boasts the Chicago area’s largest indoor light show. There are more than 600,000 lights at the event. You can see oversized sculptures with holiday and toy box themes. Fan favorites include the giant Teddy Bear, an oversized rubber duckie, a 25-foot deer, a 60-foot light tunnel, and a 40-foot Christmas tree.
Ice Skating Rink
What’s a more iconic winter image than ice skating? Enjoy ice skating with family and friends on the Alpine ice rink. Skates are even available at no extra charge! There are lockers available.
Holiday Train
You can take a train to Santa Claus’ house!
Santa’s House
This is where kids can share their holiday wishes with the big guy himself. You can also visit the Jolly Olde Post Office, where kids can drop off their letters to Santa.
Winter Wonderfest Forest
Make your way through a maze of over 100 lighted, 8-foot birch trees.
Magic Wands
You’ll feel like Harry Potter or Hermione Granger when you can use a magic wand to create your own color stories inside Light Up The Lake. You can search for and interact with thirty different magic objects throughout Light Up The Lake. Please note that the magic wands are not included in the price of the event.
Roseaux
Roseaux is an interactive art installation. You can step on sensors that rhythmically propel myriad colors up the stem of 12 individual reeds.
Stomp Light Activity
Stomp Light Activity is a brand new attraction at Light Up The Lake. It features 100 interactive light discs and interactive LED floor pads that instantly change color when you touch them.
Light Memory Game
Here’s another new attraction for 2022. You can test your skills using color patterns.
Reflecting Pond
Reflecting Pond is a new 2022 attraction. The Frozen Pond is a gorgeous area where you can relax and reflex. There is also a dedicated section for photo-ops.
Centennial Wheel
It’s always fun to take a ride on Navy Pier’s iconic 200-foot Centennial Wheel during the summer. But it takes on a different feel when you do it during Light Up The Lake. You get to see beautiful Christmas decorations around Chicago and a frosty Lake Michigan from an amazing view! Please note this activity is only available if weather permits.

There are also holiday foods and drinks available for an extra charge at the event.
