Inverlochy Castle Hotel is a beautiful 19th-century Scottish castle. Nestling in the foothills of Ben Nevis, Great Britain’s highest mountain, the Castle sits among some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery.
In 1873, Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy, sketching and painting. She wrote in her diary, “I never saw a lovelier or romantic spot.” The Castle is surrounded by the luscious green of the evergreen trees and the sparkling blue of its Loch.
If you drive to the Castle, you’ll go up the Great Glen which is one of the glories of Scotland. If you arrive in Fort Williams, the closest town, the hotel’s Rolls Royce will be waiting to transport you.
Rooms
Each of their bedrooms and suite have their own individual design plus spectacular views of the grounds and the Loch. A 40” flat-screen TV is hidden by a mirror and a DVD player i available upon request. The country house style of the 1800s – silk and brocade, sparkling crystal, polished wood – remains. The hotel has done excellent work of combining a sense of time suspended with modern amenities.
Activities
Activities at Inverlochy include skiing, snowboarding, off-road driving, white water rafting or fishing with assistance from the ghillie. Go biking or hill walking or take a gourmet picnic on a photography tour. Go boating in the beautiful Loch. Play a round of golf at the nearby Fort Williams Golf Club. Play on their tennis courts or get a tennis lesson. Clay pigeon shooting can be arranged as well as archery, air rifle shooting and knife and tomahawk throwing. Sip a whiskey in the billiards room or the bar or read by the drawing room fire. There is an area shuttle with a surcharge. The valet will clean and dry your boots, see to your laundry and dry cleaning.
Service
The hospitality and service are outstanding. Prepare to be pampered! Royalty have stayed at Inverlochy Castle Hotel, including Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, King Hussein and Queen Noor. Dinner begins with a drink by the fire in the Great Hall. Dining at “Albert and Michel Jr. at Inverlochy Castle is an amazing culinary experience. In May, 2019, Albert Roux was awarded the CIS 2019 Lifetime Excellence Award. The legendary father and son offer the finest British Cuisine with French and Highland influences. The Castle’s three dining rooms, each decorated with period and elaborate furniture presented as gifts to the Castle from the King of Norway, create an experience you will never forget. Try the matched wines – their sommelier is devoted to his calling. Simple lunches and afternoon tea are available as well as 24 hour room service. Breakfast is also available.
