Located 6 miles south of Bloomington, Lake Monroe is the largest lake in Indiana at 10,750 acres. The Lake Monroe State Park offers beaches, swimming, boating, 9 launch ramps, fishing piers, picnicking and playgrounds. One side of the lake is for speedboats, water skiing, tubing, and jet skiing. The other side is for kayaks, canoes, and fishing. Anglers come here in pursuit of bass, crappie and catfish.
There are trails for hiking and jogging. Bird watching is popular and eagles are frequently seen.
