There are a lot of great ski resorts in America but none have the rich history of Sun Valley, Idaho. It was literally our country’s first destination ski resort with the world’s first chairlifts. In 1936, these chairlifts created Sun Valley’s swank luxury image. A List celebrities came including Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Errol Flynn. Ernest Hemingway wrote “For Whom The Bell Tolls” while staying in the Sun Valley Lodge for several months. More recent celebrities include Oprah Winfrey, Arnold Schwarznegger, Tom Hanks, Justin Timberlake and Bruce Willis. Clint Eastwood filmed “Pale Rider” in Sun Valley.
