So you want to plan a trip to the Poconos Mountains.  Which is, of course, a great idea.  The wooded hills and valleys of the Poconos area have provided an outdoor playground for guests for many years.  It is a wonderful place year-round, as there are activities like fishing, hiking, hunting, etc. in the warmer months and skiing and snowboarding in the winter months.  And there are great resorts around the Poconos offering wonderful amenities to guests.

So the question really isn’t whether you want to visit the Poconos Mountains.  Because of course, you do.  The question is, how do you plan a great trip to the Poconos?  Well, luckily, we’ll help you get started with your Poconos vacation planning.

Getting to the Poconos Mountains

One of the many reasons the Poconos Mountains are a popular travel destination is that it is easily drivable from a lot of cities.  It’s about two and a half hours from New York City; Trenton, New Jersey; Syracuse, New York; Albany, New York; and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  It’s about three hours from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  It’s about three-and-a-half hours from Baltimore, Maryland.

But if you are farther away, you may want to fly into the area.  You can find cheap flights to the Poconos Mountains starting at $32 per flight.  You can also rent a car starting at $19 here.

Where to Stay

What to Do

What you do during your vacation largely depends on when you are visiting.  During the winter, months you may want to ski or snowboard.  By the way, you can save money on a Camelback Mountain ski lift ticket here.  You can also enjoy snow tubing at Camelback Mountain Resort or snow tubing at Montage Mountain.

During the summer, you can enjoy hiking, biking, camping, golf, or hunting.  You can fish, swim, kayak, or go for a boat ride in Lake Wallenpaupack, Lake Harmony, or the Delaware River.  Or you can enjoy water fun at Montage Mountain Water Park or Camelback Mountain Waterpark.

You can also enjoy great NASCAR races and the Great Pocono Raceway Air Show at Pocono Raceway.  Speaking of the Pocono Raceway, you can also ride shotgun in a 600-horsepower, NASCAR-style stock car there, too.
