6 reasons to visit Chinese New Year at Hong Kong Disneyland

The Chinese New Year Event at Hong Kong Disneyland is running from the 17th of January through the 16th of February, and if you haven’t already visited yet, then I highly recommend you do!

There are so many things there that will make your visit there great.

Here are 5 that you can get with your Hong Kong Disneyland park ticket:

1. Decorations

Check out the festive snake-themed decorations throughout the park and the hotels.

2. Character Opportunities

Meet some of your Disney favorites dressed in their Chinese New Year outfits and get great photos so you can remember this event for years to come!

There are a couple of different places you can see these Disney characters:

You won’t want to miss “Mickey and Friends Year of the Snake Processional!” Not only is it new this year, but it features Goofy with a God of Fortune outfit! Other characters in traditional outfits include Mulan, Chip, Dale and Pluto. Plus, you can enjoy the Hong Kong Disneyland original song “Magic is Here.”

And the Chinese New Year edition of “Mickey & Friends Street Celebration” is a great way to start the Year of the Snake. Mickey, Minnie, Duffy and more, all festively dressed, ride the Main Street Express and spread warm blessings.

4. Food

You can get great cuisine and a new menu at Hong Kong Disney. Consider dining at places like:

  • Main Street Corner Cafe in Hong Kong Disneyland Park
  • Ink and Plate in Disney’s Hollywood Hotel
  • Enchanted Garden Restaurant in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

5. Merchandise

Whether you’re shopping for a souvenir for yourself or looking for gifts for friends or family, there is some fantastic themed Chinese New Year merchandise options. You can find this merch around the resort. This includes:

  • Chip ‘n Dale plushes in playful snake outfits
  • Fai Chun (traditional Chinese New Year decoration)
  • Seasonal Duffy and Friends
  • Candy boxes
  • Limited edition Chinese New Year medallions with 4 detailed designs (located at the Emporium)
  • Items featuring favorite Disney characters like:

The 6th reason to go you can experience by staying on-site on one of the three Hong Kong Disneyland hotels: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel & Disney Explorers Lodge.

By staying in a Disney hotel, you can take advantage of a Chip ‘n Dale Chinese New Year In-Room Themed Surprise Package. This add on option includes:

  • Disney Movie Viewing Session (approximately 2 hours long)
  • Designated outdoor leisure area at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel on the West Lawn
  • A Disney-themed Picnic Basket:
    • Soup of the Day
    • Festive themed Mickey and Minnie donuts

This activity costs HK$620 for two guests and takes place from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. It is not available on the day of your departure.

Guests of Disney Explorers Lodge and Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel can participate in the Lunar New Year Balloon Magic Workshop. This workshop, led by a professional balloon master, will teach you how to create peach blossom balloon scenery for the Year of the Snake. It costs HK$100 and takes place 8:00 PM – 8:30 PM or 8:30 PM – 9:00 PM (except for the departure day). If you’re at the Disney Explorers Lodge, you’ll meet at the Chart Room Cafe. And at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, it takes place at the Grand Staircase.
