If you are planning a visit to Darwin and the Top End, then there is one place you need to make sure is part of your itinerary: Crocosaurus Cove! Croosaurus Cove is a great way to get an up close and personal view of Australia’s urban wildlife. It is conveniently located in the heart of Darwin in the Northern Territory.
So what makes Croosaurus Cove such a great travel destination? Well, we will tell you about Croosaurus Cove’s top attractions. And then we will tell you how to save money on your ticket with a coupon!
Reptile House
Did you know that Crocosaurus Cove is home to the world’s largest display of Australian Reptiles? Well, they are – and they have over 70 species of reptiles at the Reptile House!
You will notice that most of the reptiles are from the Northern Territory’s Top End and Kimberley region. But there is a new Desert region section with species from Australia’s Red Centre.
You’ll see the reptiles in a fun & informative way in the Meet the Reptile show. And you can learn more about what they eat for lunch during their Reptile Feeding show.
Big Croc Feed Show
Speaking of shows, we know you’ll love the Big Croc Feed Show! It begins with a Bite Force demonstration where you see the force behind the jaws of a crocodile. Their purpose-built machine makes a meal out of a solid block of ice!
You’ll learn a lot like how they survive & what their feeding habits are.
You’ll also get to see some of the most popular residents of Crocosaurus Cove. This includes famous inhabitants like Burt. He was the star of the popular movie Crocodile Dundee! And you won’t want to miss Crocosaurus Cove’s favorite power couple, William and Kate!
Swim with Crocs
But if you want to get really up close and personal with crocodiles, why not try swimming with a crocodile? Crocosaurus Cove has a unique swimming pool where you can get up close to their energetic juvenile crocodiles. But in a safe way, of course!
Fishing for Crocs
Another unique way to get up close and personal with a crocodile is through the Fishing for Crocs activity! Put a juicy snack on a fishing line. Then you dangle it (while you stand behind a glass wall) and almost one hundred juvenile saltwater crocodiles, around 2 to 3 years old, can come & eat your snack!
Hold a Baby Croc
Want to get even closer to crocodiles? You’ll get to hold a baby crocodile and feel their scales & webbed feet. There’s a photographer on-site that will capture this memorable event.
Freshwater Aquarium
But crocodiles aren’t the only animals at Crocosaurus Cove. Many different fish species live in their 200,000-litre freshwater aquarium. They’ve modeled their aquarium on a Top End typical river stream. You’ll get to see amazing sea creatures like the Barramundi, stingray, and the Archer Fish.
Turtle Billabong
You’ll find some of the cutest creatures in all of the Top End upstairs at Crocosaurus Cove. You get to see turtle species from the Top End like Red & Yellow Face Turtles, Pig Nosed Turtles & Snapping Turtles.
World of Crocs
You can get a great look at live crocodiles here. But you can also get a great view of them by looking at the 14 wax replicas of crocodiles they have on display at World of Crocs. You’ll see Australia’s Saltwater and Freshwater Crocodiles. You’ll also see interesting & unusual species like the Indian Garhial and the Dwarf Crocodile.
Cage of Death
But I have left possibly the best for last. And that is the Cage of Death. You’ll be in a “cage” & you’ll be lowered into the water with a 5m saltwater crocodile for fifteen minutes. This is Australia’s only crocodile & it is an amazing experience.
