You will also want to check out the Storm Dome. This is an indoor polar room that is chilled to -8 degrees Celsius. There is also a -18°Celsius wind chill machine in the Storm. And every hour, a simulated Antarctic storm blows through. So make sure you bring a warm jacket (overshoes are provided).
Huskies & Penguins
But perhaps the part you will most remember when you visit the International Antarctic Centre is the amazing animals. At the Husky Center, you will get a real hands-on experience with huskies. You will learn a lot about huskies. And you can get great pictures of yourself or your kids with these huskies!
You can also see penguins here! The International Antarctic Centre is home to New Zealand’s first combined indoor & outdoor penguin viewing area. You will be able to see the world’s smallest penguin here. The kororā, otherwise known as the little blue penguin, is the penguin species you will see here. They are natives of New Zealand. And the International Antarctic Centre houses rescued penguins who could not survive in the wild. There are penguin feeding times and penguin talks available at the International Arctic Centre.
