TranzAlpine Railway from Christchurch to Greymouth
The TranzAlpine is a tourist-oriented passenger train that was introduced in 1987. Passengers can enjoy a smooth ride while riding in a spacious and modern cabin. And they can take in gorgeous scenery on the train ride from Christchurch to Greymouth (or the reverse trip). The journey lasts 5 hours and travels 223 km one way.
Some of the beautiful sights you can enjoy include:
- The Southern Alps
- The Waimakariri River
- Native beech forests
When leaving from Christchurch, the train departs from Christchurch Railway Station at Addington, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand. To get there, take bus No. 120 to Whiteleigh Ave near Troup Dr. From there, it’s just a 5 minute walk to the station.
In Greymouth, the train leaves from Greymouth Railway Station on Mackay Street. The best way to get to the station is by local taxi or private car.
