Two pairs of swans arrived at Chicago’s Lincoln Park in 1868. A gift from New York City’s Central Park, they were the beginning of Chicago’s free zoo. The zoo grew and became one of the most popular attractions in Illinois. It is the only privately managed free zoo in the United States.

Lincoln Park Zoo’s customized animal exhibits have almost 200 species from around the globe. Animals at the zoo always have a choice to be outdoors or indoors. Many of the animals may choose to spend their evening indoors. You’ll have access to their feeding schedule as this is the best time to view them.
