The Feast of Fools is a fitting way to ring in the New Year. After all, the Feast of Fools or Festival of Fools was a feast day on January 1st during the Middle Ages. It began in Southern France but later grew more widely in Europe. A lack of surviving documents or accounts obscured our understanding of the Feast. But we do know that during the Feast, participants would elect either a false Bishop, false Archbishop, or false Pope. They would parody ecclesiastical rituals. Higher and lower-level clergy would change places.
So a wonderful way to celebrate the New Year would be to party like you’re at a Feast of Fools celebration during the Middle Ages. So get out your favorite medieval fantasy garb and get ready to LARP! You get to interact with a colorful cast of characters from Otherworld Theatre’s Immersive High Fantasy One-Shot LARP. Otherworld Theatre, of course, is Chicago’s premier Science Fiction and Fantasy Theatre Company.
