Explore the eerie side of Old Town San Diego as you visit haunted sites and hear the stories of the spirits from the dark past.  Let us help you save money.

When I think of San Diego, I see sunny days and gorgeous beaches.  But beneath the beauty is a past as a wild frontier town filled with brothels, saloons and shoot outs.  The gunfights, epidemics and lawlessness are still felt today with tragic figures who continue to walk among us.

Journey into San Diego’s oldest neighborhoods and listen to tales of paranormal activity and haunted histories.  You’ll go to the haunted sites where the spirits of infamous gunslingers, gamblers and criminals are said to still be seen.

Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park was opened in 1876.  One hundred years later, it fell into disrepair.  The city decided to turn it into a park. The headstones were bulldozed and Pioneer Park was built over the graves of 1,000 burial sites.

Many paranormal activities have been reported there at night.  The most frequently seen is a female apparition who appears to be lost or confused.

El Campo Santo Cemetery

El Campo Santo Cemetery dates from 1849 and is a Catholic cemetery.  Since then, a street car line was literally built through the cemetery and part of the cemetery is beneath a sidewalk and a street.

There have been many reports of paranormal activity.  A Native American man dressed in 19th century clothes and a woman also wearing period clothes have made the most appearances.  Cars parked on the street over the graves will have their alarms go off even when no one is close to them.

The Whaley House

The Whaley House, aka America’s Most Haunted House, is in Old Town.  It was built in 1857 on the site of San Diego’s first public gallows.

“Yankee Jim” Robinson is one of earliest and most famous ghosts.  He was a thief who was publicly executed by hanging on the property in 1852.  Many people have heard heavy footsteps upstairs and on the staircase.  The phantom steps continue until this day.  There are many reports of seeing a shadowy male figure and feeling a sudden chill or choking sensation.

Other reports include cold spots that come and lights that flicker with no cause and faint voices that have been recorded.  Olfactory phenomena have also been reported.  The aroma of cigars and pipe smoke have been attributed to the owner, Thomas Whaley.  Perfume fragrances have been associated with Mrs. Whaley and her daughter Violet.

Each Whaley House paranormal investigation builds on first hand accounts as well as historical records.
