Pompeii was once a thriving Roman Empire port city.  All of this changed on August 24, 79 A.D., when Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the city and its people.

But what buried this city for more than 1700 years also preserved it, giving people today an amazing glimpse into what life was like so long ago.  This included buildings, roads, and even bodies.   People are still uncovering things about Pompeii too as there are ongoing excavations and archaeological research, including by teams from the University of Cincinnati.   roads, buildings, municipal services, paintings, mosaics and even preserved bodies. Ongoing excavations and archaeological research – including by teams from the University of Cincinnati – continue to uncover an ever-evolving picture of everyday life at the height of the Roman Empire.

But you won’t have to travel to Southern Italy to get a peak into life in the Roman Empire in 79 A.D.  You can just head to Cincinnati Museum Center and visit POMPEII: The Exhibition

POMPEII: The Exhibition is a limited-time event that started back in February.  It will run through July 28, 2024.

This exhibit features over 150 artifacts on loan from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples in Italy.
