Russell Thompkins, Jr., is best known for being the lead singer of the Stylistics. His countertenor, high tenor and falsetto vocals are memorable. Thompkins and the Stylistics had 12 straight Top 10 Billboard R&B singles and 5 gold singles in the early 1990s.
Airron Love and Herb Marshall are two of the original members of the Stylistics. They’ve been joined by “Bo” Henderson (once a member of The Temptations) and Jason Sharp (once a member of Heatwave) to form the New Stylistics.
After more than 40 years, Thompkins & the New Stylistics are still performing their hits, including “Break Up To Make Up,” “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” “You AreI Everything,” “You’ll Never Get To Heaven (If You Break My Heart)” and “Betcha By Golly Wow.”
Heatwave
A disco funk band, Heatwave was formed in London in 1975. Originally, the group had 2 members from England, 2 members from Dayton, Ohio, 1 member from Czechoslovakia, 1 member from Jamaica and 1 member from Switzerland. Their greatest hits include “Lettin’ It Loose,” “Boogie Nights,” “The Groove Line,” “Posin’ ‘Til Closin’” and “Always & Forever.”
The Intruders
A soul group, The Intruders were most popular in the 1960s. Their doo wap music was influenced by gospel and their music influenced the development of Philly soul. Their greatest hits include “I’ll Always Love My Mama” and “Love Is Like A Baseball Team.”
Blackstone
Blackstone is a soul, R&B and funk group. Their greatest popularity was in the 1970s and the early 1980s. Their first big hit was the classic “Natural High” and their album of the same name. They had 5 Top 10 hits on the R&B charts.
Sonny Bivin’s Manhattans
The Manhattans were a soul/R&B Grammy winning group. They were most popular between the late 1970s and 1988. “Kiss & Say Goodbye” was their biggest hit.
