The Museum of Interesting Things should bring you, well, things that are interesting. And that is definitely the case on Sunday, Apr 24, 2022, at 7:00 PM. That is when you can enjoy their special event, the Duck and Cover Secret Speakeasy!
The Duck and Cover Secret Speakeasy is a film festival. But it is a film festival unlike any you have probably heard of. That is because the films are 16mm vintage short films from the WW2/Cold War & the Space Race era. Yes, you’ll be seeing the best (and cheesiest) WW2 & Cold War scare films and NASA space films. These are classic 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s films for Atomic Energy and Space Race & Doom.
But this event is more than just a film festival. It is also an interactive experience. Actual historic items will be present. You can try on an actual NASA Jumpsuit.
And you can play with actual nuclear energy kits from the 1950’s. Yes, apparently the inventor of the Erector set made an Atomic Energy kit. 12-year old kids in the 1950’s could make a Nuclear reaction right in their kitchen. Interesting times indeed!
So yeah, this should make for a fun and interesting time! This event, by the way, takes place at 177 Prince Street in SoHo in Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York.
