Stand Up Paddle Boarding On The Allegheny, Monongahela & Ohio Rivers

Enjoy a memorable Urban Stand Up Paddle Boarding Adventure in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  With the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers, Pittsburgh has no lack of waterways to explore.

Stand up paddle boarding is the fastest growing water sport on the planet.  Give it a try and see why so many people in so many countries around the world have become addicted.  It’s safe, fun, easy and simply a blast!  And it’s a great core workout without feeling like an exercise routine.

SUP3Rivers will provide you with all the equipment you need.  You’ll be given a paddleboard, a paddle, a leash, and a personal floatation device.

Paddleboarding Lesson

Before your easy-to-learn lesson, your instructor will help you choose the proper size paddleboard.  If you’re on a board that’s too “tippy,” it will be difficult to balance.  Their motto is when in doubt, always go thicker and wider.

The instructor will also help you choose the correct paddle and show you how to use it properly.  You’ll also learn how to angle the blade.

Your on the water lesson will begin on flat, calm water.  You’ll learn how to set off in the water and how to stand up on your board.  Where to stand on the board is important as is the exact placement of your feet.

Next, your instructor will go over basic strokes.  You’ll learn how to use your paddle as a lever.  Proper hand placement and arm movement is important.  You’ll learn the strokes to move your board in a straight line as well ass how to turn with a forward sweep stroke and a reverse sweep stroke.

This may sound like a lot to learn but it really isn’t when you’re out on the water on your board.  It’s much easier when you can actually see someone demonstrating the proper techniques.  The basic lesson will make it much easier for you to move through the water on your board without falling.

Next, you’ll set off on your Urban Stand Up Paddle Boarding Adventure.  The Northshore to the Point is a great tour giving you beautiful views of the majestic Pittsburgh skyline and the Northshore attractions.  Leave from Allegheny Landing and paddle toward PNC Park.  Then go up and around the Point where you can take a break by the fountain.  Next paddle past the Carnegie Science Center and the Casino before going back to Allegheny Landing.  This tour takes about an hour.

You’ll be paddling on the river you drive over every day.  You’ll see Pittsburgh from a whole new perspective on the water.
