Colonial Quarter St. Augustine

St. Augustine, Florida is the Nation’s Oldest City.  There is so much history in St. Augustine.  And one way to experience that is by visiting Colonial Quarter.

Colonial Quarter is a 2-acre attraction that’s located just off of A1A on St. George Street in the heart of the downtown historic district.  It is a wonderful addition to any trip to the First Coast area of Florida.  You learn so much history here.  And you also have a lot of fun!

You can take a Historical Adventure Tour of this attraction and really get a sense of the area.  And later, we’re going to tell you how to get a coupon to help you save money on this Historical Adventure Tour.

But first, let’s tell you about some of the top attractions.

The Watchtower

One of the best parts of the Colonial Quarter is the 35 feet tall Watchtower.  It gives you a wonderful bird’s eye view of the Castillo de San Marcos and St. Augustine’s bayfront.

Live Musket Demonstration

You can see a full musket demonstration.  See musket drills, the muskets get inspected and tested, etc.  And you can learn how to lock and load a 17th-century replica musket!

Flags Over St. Augustine

The Flags Over St. Augustine boardwalk gives you an opportunity to walk below the very flags that have flown about St. Augustine for 450 years.  This even includes the flag that historians believe likely flew on the mast of Juan Ponce de Leon’s ship when he explored Florida’s northeast.

Learn About Blacksmithing

Learn about how blacksmiths years ago worked hard to rework old metal into tools, cooking utensils, nails, and strap hinges.

Food & Drinks

Another great reason to visit the Colonial Quarter, other than the history, is the food and drinks.  They have wonderful restaurants that really fit the theming of the area.

Bull & Crown

The Bull & Crown was actually built on the original site of Francisco Pellicer, a skilled Minorcan carpenter.  But history isn’t the only reason you should check out this dining establishment.  The Bull & Crown is a British-style pub and serves delicious pub & English food like fish & chips, burgers, and wings.  They also serve cold beer and craft cocktails.  You can enjoy this food on the spacious front deck located on St. George Street.

Taberna del Caballo

So in addition to having a British-style pub, the Colonial Quarter of St. Augustine fittingly also has an 18th century-style Spanish-inspired tavern!  It’s a Spanish and Latin influenced dining experience that captures the era.  It also serves delicious food, like Tacos, Layered Nachos, and Cubans.  And don’t forget the drinks!  You’ll like sipping on a Sangria or a Margarita while you relax on Taberna del Caballo’s covered Patio.

Saint Augustine Seafood Company

The heart of historic St. Augustine also has a great,  fast, casual seafood restaurant, and that is the Saint Augustine Seafood Company!  They serve golden fried shrimp baskets, fresh fish sandwiches, and other locally inspired foods.  You can listen to live music while you eat outside.  You can even get a full dining experience in their bar lounge area.
