Does a day filled with fine wine and spirits, great music and good vibes sound like something you’d enjoy? If your answer is yes, you need to get yourself over to the Bullpen at Half Street Fairgrounds in Washington, D.C., on October 8, 2023, for the Amapiano & Wine Festival.
Amapiano is a new and distinct genre of house and Kwaito music that came from South Africa in the early 2020s. “Amapiano” translates loosely into “the pianos” in Zulu. It is a hybrid of deep house, Kwaito, jazz and lounge music with Afrobeat elements.
The rise of Amapiano music occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people were stuck at home, scrolling through apps like TikTok and instagram. It can now be found in clubs and venues across South Africa and it has spread to the U.K. and the U.S.
DJ Stokie, aka “Superman of Amapiano,” popularized Amapiano, especially in Soweto, South Africa. Kabza De Small was one of the first popular Amapiano artists and is a major figure in this music genre.
Local and international DJs will be spinning the latest Amapiano tracks at the festival. The music will make you want to dance the day away in the lively atmosphere of the festival.
Indulge in a wide array of fine wines from Africa and from Black owned vineyards and spirits brands. There will be something to delight every palate. Try a bold red wine or a crisp white. Compare notes on the samples with other wine enthusiasts.
