Mike will introduce you to many local bars in Galveston’s lively nightlife scene. You can sip on a drink (own expense) as you hear tales of Galveston’s Red Light District. It once had 55 houses of prostitution. Galveston had the name “Sin City” long before Las Vegas did. Men working in Houston would spend their weekends in Galveston, coming to gamble, drink and visit houses of prostitution. Their money drove the economy and the city’s leaders looked “the other way.”
You’ll hear about the Great Storm of 1900 which was the worst hurricane and deadliest storm in United States history. The death toll was estimated to be between 6,000 and 12,000 people. Galveston has also suffered from fires, floods and epidemics.
Mike will point out historic landmarks. You’ll hear about Jean Lafitte, pirates, buried treasure and much more. And you’ll hear about the Tremont House Hotel – is it true that some guests checked in but never checked out?
Every bar/pub will have its own story and great drinks. Some of the places you may visit include
- Molly’s Pub: An authentic Irish Pub with over 60 draft beers from around the world.
- Tsunami: An exotic tequila emporium.
- Mob Bar: Housed in a brothel that closed in 1987, it is a 1930s style speakeasy.
- Patrick’s Bar: A watering hole with sports watching on TVs, a golf arcade game, and a pool table.
- Tremont House Rooftop Bar: An upscale bar offering great views of the city.
- Daiquiri Timeout: A lounge serving up imaginative craft cocktails and house-made spirits.
- Bubba’s: A quaint downtown bar.
- The Alibi Bar: A full-service bar with a music venue and is housed in a former brothel.
- Murphy’s: An old school hangout with pub grub, beer on tap, and a pool table.
You’ll be entertained, scared and educated, all at the same time. And you’ll have so much fun doing it!
