Hang Gliding In Nags Head, North Carolina
Take in the beautiful beach below and the Carolina blue sky above as you fly over the dunes, suspended from a harness and glider. Experience the thrill of flying.
Kitty Hawk Kites in the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the largest hang gliding school in the world. They have taught over 400,000 students over the last 46 years.
Take a beginner lesson and learn how to fly a hang glider in this three hour lesson. Your training will take place at Jockey Ridge State Park in Nags Head on the Outer Banks. Your lesson will include Ground School and 5 solo training flights.
You’ll begin with Ground School which will include a training video. It will also include glider control inputs, launching, flying and landing techniques and equipment orientation.
Jockey Ridge State Park has the tallest natural sand dunes system in the eastern United States. These dunes offer the perfect place for learning how to hang glide. The dunes have plenty of height which is helpful for beginners. And, more importantly, they make for a soft landing.
At the completion of Ground School, you’ll go through a scenic walkway to get to the dunes. You’ll receive a helmet and a harness. Once you’re on top of the dune, your instructor will help you get into the harness, give you last minute instruction and help you launch.
And then you’re off and into the air. Fly over the dunes. Get a “bird’s eye” view of the beach. You’ll feel safe and comfortable in the air and get breathtaking views. Fly the friendly skies in a safe and fun way!
This is one of the best ways to experience what the Wright brothers felt over one hundred years ago. And they had their first flights only a few miles away from where you’ll be taking your first flights.
