The Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, is an iconic and famous hotel, so there is a good chance you have heard of it before.
You may just know of it as the hotel with the ducks.
It is a hotel I wanted to stay in for years, so I was really glad when I finally got the chance to stay there about ten years ago.
I have now stayed at the hotel numerous times throughout the years, and have had a wonderful time every time I’ve visited.
So what is it that keeps me coming back to the Peabody every time I travel to Memphis? I want to tell you seven things I love about the Peabody…and two things I do not.
7 Things I Love About Peabody Memphis
- Ducks: This hotel is famous for its ducks, and it should be because the ducks are awesome. Their world-famous five Mallard ducks march every day in the lobby. This is a tradition that dates back to 1933. They march on a red carpet to the fountain at 11:00 AM and then leave during another march at 5:00 pm. I have seen both marches and loved both. It really is a fun experience, and it’s the kind of experience you need to have yourself. Me explaining it doesn’t do it justice.
- Spa: The Peabody Hotel has an on-site spa, Feathers Spa, that was named one of the top 100 Spas of 2024 by Spas of America. Feathers Spa has numerous spa and salon treatments, including massages, facials, body wraps, wax treatments, and more.
- Atmosphere: I love the hotel’s atmosphere. It is the perfect combination of luxury and welcoming. And that isn’t always easy to achieve, as some luxurious hotels are a bit too stuffy for my taste. But this hotel has great Southern charm.
- Rooms: Just like with the atmosphere, the guest rooms at Peabody have that touch of luxury while being inviting. They have a cozy feel to them. The beds are also really comfortable, too.
- Location: I love its location in downtown Memphis. It can make for some great views from your hotel room. You can walk around to a lot of dining options.
- Dining: Speaking of walking to dining options, you don’t have to because Peabody has a lot of great onsite restaurants, including a great weekend brunch. They are also home to Chez Philippe, a French restaurant that is the MidSouth’s only Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four-Diamond rated restaurant.
- Indoor Pool: I always love when hotels have an indoor pool. It makes a vacation more weatherproof. This means you can swim even when the weather is cold, like if you visit during the Peabody during the holiday season.
2 Things I Hate About The Peabody
- Parking: The negative about staying in a downtown hotel is that the parking situation is not ideal. If you self-park, the parking lot is not only expensive but a block away. You can save money by parking in a garage even farther away from the Peabody, but then that makes carrying in your luggage a huge pain. You can get valet parking from the hotel. But of course, that makes your parking fees even more expensive. And speaking of expensive…
- Price: Given all the hotel amenities, it should come as no surprise that the Peabody is expensive. Luckily, I have been able to stay there multiple times for a good rate. I have done that by booking through this website.
Conclusion
The Peabody Hotel is one of my favorite hotels anywhere in the world. There are a few things I do not like about it (the high price and parking situation). But the positives (the world-famous ducks, the atmosphere, the guest rooms, etc.) are more than enough to make up for the negatives.
And once again, the price isn’t as bad if you book your room here.
