Are you fascinated by earthquakes? Then there’s a dining experience at Universal Studios Florida theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort I think you’re going to love. And that is Richter’s Burger Company!
Richter’s Burger Company is inspired by Earthquake, the popular 1970s disaster film by Universal Studios (so much so there is a poster up for the movie in the restaurant). But you won’t have to see the movie to understand the restaurant (though this restaurant did inspire me to watch the movie, which I enjoyed, by the way).
The restaurant is located in the San Francisco section of Universal. All over the restaurant are earthquake decorations as well as some California decorations. I really love restaurants like this that are extensively themed. There’s also cute punny nods like a poster for Elvis Presley’s All Shook Up. The decor is reason enough to make me want to eat there.
And the theming doesn’t stop with just the decorations. They have just great music playing that fits the theming, like the song “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”.
And every now and then the music breaks and there are noises and things shaking like an earthquake is going on. That’s a really neat touch. It’s a bit like when the volcano erupts at the restaurant Rainforest Cafe or when the meteor strikes at T-Rex Cafe at Disney World. Luckily with this earthquake experience, the actual ground does not shake, as I do not think that would help with digesting your food.
There is plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. There are multiple rooms and even seating in an upper level.
Ordering Food at Richter’s Burger Co.
Richter’s Burger Company is a quick service restaurant, meaning that you order your food at the counter. Then you’ll go to your table and a server will bring your food out to you.
One negative of this restaurant is that the service was quite slow. We stood in a very long line, though we were there on a Saturday night so that was not super surprising. But keep that in mind if you eat here.
One way around this is to take advantage of mobile ordering. This is where you can order from the app in your phone. We chose not to do it because I wanted to customize my burger and you can’t do that on mobile order. But if you don’t want any customizations, then you can do mobile order and save time from having to wait in line. After all, you’re going to wait in line enough as it is at a theme park, right?
When I went to order my food, I noticed Truffle Parmesan Fries on the menu. I did not notice however that they cost extra than regular fries. I asked to swap the regular French Fries that came with my meal for the Truffle Parmesan Fries. We did that for three total orders. The employee agreed, but then after I got my receipt I realized my bill was $20 higher because of the change.
And while I was the one who made the mistake of not realizing the price change, I did not think it should have been that high of a change. But since there was such a long line, I did not complain.
Richter’s Burger Co. Food & Drink Review
And truthfully, it would have been hard to get too mad after I had them. Because the Truffle Parmesan Fries were some of the most delicious French Fries I have ever had, except of course the Fries at Primo Piatto at the Riviera Resort at Disney World. I mean, just look at these fries.
But that wasn’t the only thing that was good on the menu. Everyone in my family got burgers, and the burgers were delicious. They use Premium Angus Beef, and the quality of the meat was much higher than you might normally expect at a quick service theme park restaurant.
The Mushroom Swiss Truffle Burger was very good. This was also a great surprise on the menu as some burger places at theme parks just have standard burgers so since a lot of my family likes this burger, we were pleased it was on the menu. And it was good.
Some of the menu items had fun themed names. This was true for the burger I had, The Big One.
This burger in reality is a bacon cheeseburger but I personally like “The Big One” better as a name. And it is a great burger, too. Very delicious.
Another fun name was for their milkshakes, which were called “The Frisco Shake”.
You could get this Vanilla, Chocolate or Swirl. We got it in Chocolate and it was delicious!
As for drinks, they have beer (Heineken and Miller Lite), milk, water, and juice. They also have Freestyle Coca-Cola Machines so you can get a single drink or you can refill your mug if you bought a Coca-Cola Freestyle Souvenir Cup (this is also where you can buy one).
Conclusion
Richter’s Burger Co. is more expensive than other theme park quick service restaurants. But you get quality premium angus beef in your burgers and delicious food like the Truffle Parmesan Fries. The service can be slow at busy times. But the food and the wonderful earthquake & California theming and atmosphere make up for it. I recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Universal Studios.
