There are many ways to experience the beautiful city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  But perhaps the best way to experience it is on a canal!  After all, there is a reason why this is the number one experience in Amsterdam!  You’ll get to see a lot of sites and you’ll learn about Amsterdam’s history along the way.

This is a one-hour cruise.  It starts in the medieval core of the city.  It dates back to the 13th century and it was actually built on a swamp.  You’re going to see things you don’t see every day in this section, like houses that literally tilt sideways or lean forwards.

After that, your cruise will take you to the old port.  Here is where you’ll learn about Amsterdam’s overseas trade and the Dutch enterprise that led to the Golden Age of the 1600s.  You’ll even pass by an incredible replica of a cargo ship from this era.  After that, you’ll head to where the Amstel River meets the network of canals.

Next you’ll head to Grachtengordel.  Grachtengordel is a neighborhood originally built during the Golden Age and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.  You can marvel at the beautiful architecture of the canal houses here.

But these aren’t the only great places you’ll see on this canal cruise.  You’ll go by the Anne Frank House and the Westerkerk.  Your boat will also pass under the Skinny Bridge.

And as I said before, you learn a lot on this cruise.  That’s because an audio guide gives you information on everything that you see.
