London’s Trafalgar Square will turn red and white on Sunday, April 21, 2024, for the Feast of St. George Festival.  The festival will be happening from 12 pm to 6 pm.

St. George is the patron saint of England.  St. George’s Day is April 23, the anniversary of his death in 303 AD.  St. George was executed for refusing to make a sacrifice in honor of the pagan gods during the persecution of the Emperor Diocletian, making him a Christian martyr.

The symbol for St. George is a red cross on a white background.  It is often seen in the form of flags.

There is a St. George’s Day Parade.  You’ll see marching bands, English dancers and even knights in armor.

The celebration of St. George’s Day has its origins in the 13th century as a day of feasting.  St. George was celebrated for his bravery.

There is a Main Stage in Trafalgar Square that will have traditional and contemporary performances.  There will be live music, comedy and dancing.  You’ll see English folk Morris Dancing and falconry displays.

Feasting is a part of the festival.  There will be food stalls selling traditional English food, like fish and chips, ale and sweet treats.

This free celebration of St. George’s Day will have family games and activities for children, like face painting.  There will be roaming entertainers, an English street food market, a Silent Disco, sports activities and races.

There will be fireworks, set to traditional English music on Sunday in this celebration of English culture and tradition.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, many restaurants in London will offer special menus for the day featuring English dishes, like roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.  Many London Pubs will be offering special meals of traditional pub fare with ale.
