Les Invalides
The Hotel des Invalides was opened in 1670 by Louis XIV to provide accommodations and hospital care for wounded soldiers. Today, a military hospital is there plus the headquarters of the military governor of Paris. The soldier chapel is now Cathedrale St. Louis des Invalides. Its famous gilded Dome is a prominent sight in the Parisian landscape.
Musee d’Orsay
Musee d’Orsay is an art museum on the left bank of the Seine. It is housed in a railway station built between 1898 and 1900. It holds mostly French art, including paintings, photography, sculptures, furniture and more.
Ile de la Cite
Ile de la Cite is an island on the River Seine in the center of Paris. In the 4th century, it was the site of the fortress of the area governor for the Roman Empire.
Notre Dame Cathedral
Notre Dame is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Ile de la Cite. It is one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The construction began in 1163 and the cathedral was opened in 1345. A fire ravaged Notre Dame in 2019, but it is now 90% restored.
Hotel de Ville
The Hotel de Ville is the City Hall of Paris. The south wing was built by Francis I in 1551. The north wing was built by Henry IV and Louis XIII between 1605 and 1628.
Louvre Museum
One of the most famous museums in the world, Louvre is a national art museum. The palace is home to some of the world’s most iconic pieces of art.
Place de la Concorde
The Place de la Concorde is the largest square in Paris. The centerpiece is a 3,400 year old obelisk from Luxor which was a gift from Egypt. All of the royal beheading during the French Revolution took place in this square.
Grand Palais
The Grand Palais is a historic site, exhibition hall and museum complex. It’s located between the Champs-Elysees and the Seine. It hosted the fencing and taekwondo events in the 2024 Olympics.
