The Volunteer Princess
Named after the Tennessee Volunteers, the Volunteer Princess is the only modern and luxurious vessel on the upper Tennessee River. A 132 passenger yacht, it has 2 fully enclosed and climate controlled decks. Scenic views can be had from every seat in the ship. Built in 2007. It is 96 feet in length and cost 2.2 million dollars.
River Cruise Itinerary
The Volunteer Princess departs from Volunteer Landing Marina off of Neyland Drive. You’ll cruise downstream and pass the Sunsphere, which is the symbol of the 1982 World’s Fair. You’ll glide by Neyland Stadium, home of the Tennessee Volunteers football team. And you’ll see the University of Tennessee’s Forensic Anthropology Center, aka the Body Farm.
You’ll pass by Looney Island and travel by the Sequoyah Hills community. And then the Volunteer Princess will turn around and begin its voyage back to the marina.
Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair on the front deck or get comfortable in the two climate-controlled interior salons. The Captain will give an interesting narration, telling you about Knoxville’s history, scenery and points of interest. You’ll see multi-million dollar waterfront homes. Be on the lookout for local wildlife, including eagles, osprey, herons and more. You’ll get a different perspective of Knoxville from the water.
Drinks and appetizers will be available for purchase on board. The yacht is accessible. Standard wheelchairs can be accommodated on the main deck and there is a handicap accessible restroom on the main deck.
Tennessee sunsets are beautiful and even more spectacular when you’re out on the water. Watch as the golden sphere sinks slowly into the water and the sky is streaked with orange, pink and purple. This is the perfect place and the perfect way to watch the day end.
This would make a great Father’s Day, birthday or anniversary present. It would also be great for a bachelor or bachelorette party.
