When I think of New Orleans, Louisiana, I always think of Mardi Gras.  Mardi Gras is an event that so many people travel to New Orleans every year to take part in.  But you can enjoy Mardi Gras when you travel to New Orleans any time of the year.  And that is because you can visit Mardi Gras World!

Mardi Gras World is a behind-the-scenes look at how the Mardi Gras celebration comes to life.  You get to tour the famous Blaine Kern Studios.

Blaine Kern Studios

Blaine Kerns was instrumental in the formative years of some of the biggest parades in New Orleans.  He took several trips to France, Italy, and Spain, and was inspired by the extravagant concepts and animation that came with the European style of float building.  He brought those ideas back to New Orleans.

The Kern Studios was officially founded in the form you see it today in 1947.  Today, they build some of the biggest and best floats for Mardi Gras each year.  In fact, the studios build and decorate over 500 floats each year!

And you can see all this for yourself.  Because after years of being asked for private tours, the Kerns family decided to open up the Kern Studios as a tourist attraction in 1984.  That’s when Mardi Gras World was formed!

Mardi Gras World Tours

The beginning of a Mardi Gras World tour starts with learning about the history of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  Then you get to visit the float den.  That’s where artists at Blaine Kern Studios work year-round to build amazing floats and props.  It’s a really great up-close look at the floats.  I mean, you don’t even get that close to the floats when you are watching a Mardi Gras parade in person!

This is definitely a must-see attraction when you visit New Orleans.  There is a reason it is listed as a top attraction by TripAdvisor, Fodor’s, Google Maps, and Yelp.  Make sure you don’t leave New Orleans without visiting this attraction!  It is located in the Lower Garden District.
